A ministry of showing up

Do you have a ministry of showing up?

On occasion we’re invited to go somewhere we don’t really want to go.  Sometimes it’s not anything against the people (like a family gathering), it’s just that we’d rather not get in the car, deal with traffic, whatever.  But then MBH (my better half) and I look at each other with a reminder that’s become part of our marriage…

…our ministry of showing up.

Though it’s not limited to family functions alone, let’s use that scenario as the example.  On my MBH’s side of the family, some gatherings will have NO evangelical Christians if we don’t show up.  Muslim, check.  Mormon, check.  Avowed Pagan, check.

Since they all know where we stand, and everyone gets along fabulously, it’s not like it’s contentious.  But we have been amazed at how many opportunities we’ve had to be the ’salt and light,’ give into others’ lives, or share a Biblical point of view because we got over our own selves and decided that showing up would be an act of ministry.

Show up.  You might be the only one there with a voice to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
